Caring for what you collect

Every piece on Rūbas has a story — and the right care keeps that story going. Here is how to treat the materials you'll meet most, so a thoughtful purchase lasts for years.

Material care, simplified

Find the fabric, follow a few gentle habits, and let the rest take care of itself. When in doubt, always read the garment's own care label first.

Wool

Air it out after wearing instead of washing — a few hours of fresh air revives the fibre.
Hand-wash or use the wool cycle in cool water with a wool-specific detergent.
Dry flat on a towel — never hang it wet or put it in the dryer.

Hand-wash in lukewarm water with a mild or cashmere-specific detergent.
Don't twist or wring — remove water by rolling it in a towel.
Dry and store flat; gently remove pills with a cashmere comb.

Hand-wash in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent.
Dry in the shade — direct sun yellows and weakens the fibre.
Iron inside-out on a cool setting while still slightly damp.

Wipe off dust with a soft, slightly damp cloth; never soak it or machine-wash it.
Condition it a few times a year so it doesn't dry out and crack.
Store in a cool, dry place on a wide hanger, not in a plastic bag.

Wash on a cool or warm cycle, with prints and dark colours turned inside-out.
To avoid shrinking, skip hot water and high dryer heat.
Take it out promptly and iron slightly damp for fewer wrinkles.

Wash rarely and inside-out on a cold cycle to slow fading.
Air-dry — high dryer heat shrinks and ages the fabric.
Refresh odours between washes by airing out or a short spell in the freezer.

A note on doubt

When you're unsure, do less. Spot-test in a hidden seam, choose the gentlest method available, and lean on a trusted specialist for tailoring, leather work, or stubborn stains. Restraint is almost always the safer choice for a treasured piece.
